    As a Christian, I love that God gave us all the gift of intelligence. It's a pity so few people take advantage of that gift.
    Oh don't get me wrong, I'm very aware that this kind of thought is symptomatic of a certain kind of Christian, not representative of the religion as a whole. But yeah, I was raised Catholic, I know all those arguments myself and made them. Doesn't phase these people.

    Regarding the law, I've always been a particular fan of the Ninth Amendment to the U.S. Constituion.

    "The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."

    This is an explicit statement that just because a right has not been specifically protected by the constitution does not mean that it is not an inalienable right.

    Even if I believed that gay people are worse than animals, actual walking abominations in th eyes of God I would not support this bill. I don't think a lot of the people voting realized that this bill isn't about gay marriage but about a group of people telling gays they can't be married because it doesn't fit with their perception of how their world should work according to their beliefs. Well guess what, these people are fighting a war and a lot of the voters who voted to ban gay marriage are going to suffer because now that these idiots won a battle they are going to be embolden and go on to the next battle than the next battle until the state they live in matches what their expectation of an ideal world should be according to their beliefs. A world where everyone that isn't them is put into their place as servants beholding to their masters that control every aspect of their existence for as long as it benefits them.

    Unfortunately that means no more Disney World or Universal Studios, either, because Florida's got it in their constitution, too (Article 1, Section 27).

    The anti-gay-marriage push is led by fundamentalist evangelicals, and they consider facts sinful.

    Anything other than blind, mindless faith in the Bible might lead to damnation, and so must be avoided. God is sitting out there waiting for you to make a mistake so he can pull the trapdoor and send you down into the flames. Best just to cower and obey. If you're not sure what the Bible is saying about a particular issue, just ask Pastor Bob. He'll be sure to tell you.

    These people are the largest bloc of voters in all Southern states, and in many midwestern, Plains, and mountain states as well. All of them vote, and they all vote the same way. If they had their way, slavery would still be legal in North Carolina. The only way real change happens in states like this is by having it forced on them by the federal government, usually the Supreme Court, although I certainly don't see this current Supreme Court coming anywhere near a ruling that same-sex marriage is a universal Constitutional right.

    The Republican Speaker of the NC House admitted that this is a generational issue, and that this amendment will be repealed within the next 20 years. The Repugs know they're losing the Culture Wars... they're just determined to hurt as many of "the enemy" as they can before evolution sends them the way of the Neanderthals. Anything to keep God from springing that trapdoor on them.

    Yeah, that's a big thing that'll be keeping me from boycotting states that have anti-marriage equality planks in their constitution that are approved by voters. Not Disney World, I mean, but the fact that I live in that state and there are just so many other states with similar amendments. I'm not going to stop visiting my sisters in NC just because of what voters or the legislature or anybody else did.
