I read the first two series back in the 80s because I girl I had a crush on had read them. Depressing, but well written and a really thought out world. I've read the first two books of the latest series and still have to read the third.

I got the box set of the first three books in paperback as a gift when I was in high school. I read probably the first book and a half before setting it down. I realized the lead character just grated on me so much that every time I picked it up felt like a chore, so eventually I just moved on to something else.

I think my prob was that I liked the supporting cast, but HATED Thomas Covenant. ESPECIALLY after how he treats the girl who finds him in The Land.
