Rangers rock. Both my favorite D&D character and my favorite computer RPG character were rangers. Female rangers, as it would happen. Edala and Rhapsody.
I tend to prefer character classes with more versatility to those with more firepower.
Paladin, Ezekiel 25:17, bitch!
Barbarian, I'll mace you good!
Ranger, leave me the hell out of this! I'm just here to hunt!

"Fascism should rightly be called Corporatism, as it is the merger of corporate and government power." --Benito Mussolini
"I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and to bid defiance to the laws of our country." --Thomas Jefferson
Barbs are the most powerful, but I prefer Rangers. Their philosophy is just less annoying than preachy Paladins or rage-driven Barbarians.

Barbarians SMASH.
If I hit somebody, I want to be able to taste the enamel chipping off their teeth when I brutally impale their face with my mace (or axe). Fighting, in my book, is best done as two people with an equal chance to heat each other, bludgeoning one another until the victor emerges triumphant and bloody.
Toss up between Rangers and Barbs. I'll give a bow focused ranger the edge in overall usefulness, but personally I prefer the simple raw power of the Barb.
Paladins are fucking party poopers and I think they ought to a prestige class like blackguards.
Gotta go with Barbarians.
Rangers, FTW!
Barbarians are strong but lack skill and finesse. Paladins are insufferable. Rangers do just as well solo as in a group.
In academic circles "barbarian" is out of date. They're called pre-state peoples now.
Go Go Eleven Rangers!!!
Ranger. Paladins are too preachy and barbarians are too dumb.![]()

"Tell me that a fit fortyish woman with 25+ years of experience at sea and several decades of live bladefighting practice under her belt isn’t a threat when she runs across the deck toward you, and I’ll tell you something in return— you’re gonna die of stab wounds." - Scott Lynch
