I'm not going to get into the whole ethics argument about whether or not Jack Kirby's estate deserves royalties from these films-suffice it to say I think it's abhorrent that they don't, and I'll leave it at that-but one good thing that came from the discussion was the spotlight it put on how comic creators can struggle under financial duress. So, if you went to see The Avengers this past weekend, please think about this excellent post and consider matching your ticket price with a donation to The Hero Initiative. I didn’t see the movie and have no plans to but I popped ten bucks for HI because I think it’s important that the people who make these movies possible have access to the safety net they deserve. Please consider matching your ticket price if you feel the same way.

Mac, straight from that site:
ABuckForJack.com is not affiliated with the Kirby Estate, the Kirby family, the Kirby heirs, the Kirby Museum, or any such grouping. It has not been approved by them (although a coding change in the donation button was made at the request of the museum, due to the way it was putting a load on their server), nor were they informed of it before it went up. It is owned by me, Nat Gertler; I briefly met Jack Kirby and his wife Roz once on a convention bus, and Lisa Kirby at a party, and that's about it. As the publisher of About Comics, I did hold the reprint rights to the Steve Gerber/Jack Kirby series Destroyer Duck for a while, but those were negotiated with Gerber, and when a larger publisher wanted to reprint the series, I passed the rights on to them. So no, I'm not a Kirby insider, and do not benefit myself from this site. The costs of running this site are minimal, and I'm not seeking contributions toward this cost.
I wouldn't give to them. Nowhere on that site do I see where the money actually goes.
On the paypal link it's listed as going to the kirby museum.

Yeah, I just saw that. Still, I'd rather give to the Hero Initiative. They're a known comics charity.
