So, Avengers has now made 1 Billion dollars world wide.

In the US it's second weekend earned it $100 million, which is the best second weekend on record. (The previous one was held by Avatar which was $75 million.

Yeah, we are seeing more super hero movies.

I saw this movie again this weekend. To be honest, I was disappointed and the many plot holes and other problems that bothered me the first time were, if anything, significantly amplified. It's still a good movie, but it's not great. I would certainly say that I can think of a number of "comic book movies" that are significantly better and hold together better. I suspect that when the euphoria and hype around the film wears off, "The Avengers" may go down as one of the more overrated films of all time.

For that I will quote Joss Whedon

RDA: Is 'the Ravengers" a perfect movie? It did get an A+ cinemascore...

JW: There are very few perfect movies. "The Court Jester", "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "Godfather" I & II... The list does not go on and on. "The Avengers" is notably IMperfect, which makes its success mean so much more to me -- because it's striking a chord that matters MORE than its obvious flaws. Like the team, it appears to be more than the sun of its parts. Boo-yah!

RDA: What do you feel is the greatest achievement of "the Avoiders"?

JW: Getting "mewling quim" out there to the masses. Also, Hulk.

The euphoria is there for a reason, and the hype is coming more from the fans than the marketing departments, so... I think this movie's reputation is likely to hold up.

The more fun people are having, the less they care about plot holes.

Now that I've had a few days to think about it, my opinion of the movie is still the same: it's one of my top 10 favorite superhero movies, but probably not top five. I'm glad it's doing as well as it is, and I think it's a vastly better movie than Avatar, the #1 money-making movie that it will hopefully (but probably not) catch.

"I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and to bid defiance to the laws of our country." --Thomas Jefferson

If a movie is good, nobody notices or cares about the plot holes.

    Example:
In CITIZEN KANE, nobody is in the room to hear Kane's last words, so there is no way for any of the subsequent story to occur.

Re: I saw the Avengers--MASSIVE SPOILERS INSIDE.

I just came back from seeing this a second time. so many little touches I missed the first time, I'm glad I went.

Of particular note: When Loki and Thor are arguing on the mountain just before Iron Man jets in to slam Thor, two ravens fly by them. The ravens are, in myth, Odin's messengers and scouts/spies. Made me wonder.

Also, as Banner shifts for the first time on the carrier, as he staggers on to a piece of decking, below his feet is stenciled "Contents Under Pressure." Truer words never painted.

I still think this is an absolutely amazing movie. I'm almost sure it's not from the Vicodin that I'm on from destroying my knee this weekend.

One key thing to the Avengers: I enjoyed it. I wasn't just interested or emotional, as I was over Dark Knight and Hunger Games, I actually came out of the theatre with a massive grin on my face. That's really rare for me. I think that feeling will hold up over time.

I expect to buy it when it comes out on Blu-Ray. That'll push my movie collection up to about 12 movies.

I finally saw it the other night, with my nephews. I liked it quite a bit -- particularly Ruffalo's performance as Bruce Banner.

Re: I saw the Avengers--MASSIVE SPOILERS INSIDE.

I just saw the film for a third time, this time with a cousin that I was taking out for the evening. She, a fourteen year old girl, remarked that she loved it so much she wanted to cry.

    I love my cousin.
