Re: It's Free Comic Book Day!! What Are Your Plans?

Picked up more comics than I really should have at Strange Adventures today. Picked up 11 FCBD comics (Limit was 15), about ten regular comics they were giving out (Stuff they ordered too much of) and 5 TPB/Hardcovers they were giving out. Also picked up Faith Erin Hick's "Friends with Boys".

Really I don't think I'll be impulse buying anything for quite a while. These will last me a long time.

Because I give out comics on Halloween, I arrange to purchase 10 copies of various titles each year. This year I bought 13 titles.

    Mouse Guard
    Megaman
    Bongo/Spongebob
    Serenity/Star Wars
    The New 52
    Transformers 80.5
    The Avengers 12.1
    Sonic The Hedgehog
    Buffy/The Guild
    Superman Family Adventures
    Spider-Man: Season 1
    Top Shelf Kids Club
    The Smurfs/Tinkerbell

    Cost me $42.50

For my freebie books today, I got an extra copy of The Avengers book and a copy of Bad Medicine #1. From the OLD freebies box I picked up last year's Captain America/Thor and Young Justice/Batman Brave and the Bold FCBD books. Oh and I got a free copy of The New Guardians #1.

To help offset the costs incurred by the shop for the "free" books, I made the extra purchase of Gotham Central Volume 4.

And now comes the special request portion of this post:

If any retailer has a copy of the Lady Death and Voltron Force comics, I would love to get a copy of them if you have any left after the day's events are over. Neither store I went to had them. My brother and his girlfriend wanted to check them out.

Firstly I planned to get up far too early for my tastes and attend my very own college graduation ... in the rain.
    Then lunch with family.
The ritually mourn the loss of my LCS.
Consider attending my sci-fi club's exam-days (for the other local school) cookout.

Re: It's Free Comic Book Day!! What Are Your Plans?

I just got home, where I picked up five free issues (Finding Gossamyr, Zombie Kid, Spider-Man, Graphic Elvis, and Burt Ward Boy Wonder - I got the Adam West comic last year) and three oldies out of the box (Two Brave & The Bold's - team-up with Rose & Thorn - and a Flash/Flash/Kid Flash comic).

One thing I noticed, and I figured it was worth mentioning given how often we talk about these things here, was that a good 1/3 to half the people in the store were women. Some were just buying stuff for their boyfriends, but others were there themselves just as fans. I'm not even in a big city, or in the middle of a traditionally geeky area, and women ae still going to the shop to buy comics. Where does this "Women don't read comics?" theory come from?

Re: It's Free Comic Book Day!! What Are Your Plans?

Went up to Yancy Street comics in the morning with my husband and kids.I got to say hello to Gail while my little folks ran circles around me. It was their first free comic day, and they just thought all comics were "mommy's books" so they wouldn't grab anything. The store is in a mall and the signing was right by the kids rides, so my 3-year-old was obsessed with those. We picked up some Magic cards for my husband and a few books for the kids, and let them run wild in the play area for a while. They did not want to leave at all and had marvelous tantrums as we left. They passed out in the car abruptly, so our half hour drive turned into 2 hours are driving around scenic Florida.

Here's my and my little wild men with Gail. Best shot of a series of fabulously goofy shots of my kids.

But the win of the day went to the 'rocket' ride. He was soooo happy to be riding it.

The podcast recording went well. Zach Howard, Mike Raicht, Aaron Kuder, were great guests. Geoff Watkins from Cloud City also had his friend Russ Burlingame from comicbook.com come in and he joined us for a great show.

Geoff goes all out for the store on FCBD. All variant covers were half-price. 4 for a dollar boxes were 12 for a dollar. 2 for a dollar were 6 for a dollar. and great deals on the back issue stuff. Plus great deals on toys, shirts, and trades. There's a reason why he does such great business and his customers appreciate it.

He also appears on the show and talks about how it's not the business side that drives him to make FCBD a success for customers. It's that love of comics he had as a child that he wants to pass on to those kids that come in wearing those Batman and Spider-Man costumes.

One of my friends brought her 7 year old who doesn't read comics regularly. It was fun to watch him go through the boxes picking out stuff he wanted to buy for himself. That is what it's all about.

Wilson I'm not sure about Lady Death, but I'm pretty sure I picked up a Voltron Force to read. When I'm done I can send it to you this week. Send me a PM or add me on Facebook. "Jeff Hartz" or search by my email, DrWhoFan@ComCast.net and I can get it out to you.

At my LCS there weren't a lot of females there for the comics. There were several who brought kids. There were a ton of kids. The local 501st crew turned up as well as Thor and several kids in costume.

I stayed home, played games, and finished off half a bottle of mead, my heart just wasn't into going due to current events.

    I don't have a local store I frequent.

so we instead went to pick up Nick's new glasses, ate lunch at IHOP (the Red Velvet Pancakes are AMAZING), and then came home and watched a Godzilla movie (one we'd never seen!. .I was shocked that I'd never seen it. . from 2000. . "Godzilla vs MegaGuirus". . . not fantastic, but not bad at all!).

but on Tuesday, I did respond to the email from Richard at Zeus Comics and let him know which offerings I was interested in so he could pull for me
