I think that the fact that Romney has not said a single word about this speaks volumes.
I think that the fact that Romney has not said a single word about this speaks volumes.
Of course it does, he's hedging his bets like a good little politician.
You know, like most far leftists, I have a lot of problems with Obama. But Romney is just fucking pathetic. It's like Chris Matthews said last night, the guy doesn't really care about anything. At all. He wants to cut taxes. That's it. He doesn't give a damn about anything else.
Obama at least cares. He might not do what I would hope he would do, but he fucking cares.
I just don't get Romney.
Obama's record on gay rights is pretty mixed, but it's at least been consistently mixed. Even when campaigning for president, he supported civil unions more than marriage. But Romney, we went from being this self-styled friend of gay rights during his governorship to a total Judas.
That's the thing: Romney doesn't believe in anything. He can just say whatever is most applicable at the time since he doesn't actually give a damn either way. To me, that's almost more despicable than someone who is a total bigot. At least the bigot actually believes in something, even if that something is loathsome.
Romney is a completely empty suit.
You're.... talking about Romney here?
And if so -- no.
Because we've already seen that all it took was the religious right raising a fuss and Romney, at the very least, simply kept silent.
If he gets in front of a 'central' audience and says that he's 'okay' with 'teh gays' just so long as they don't ask for marriage equality then out will come the pitchforks, pikes, and flaming torches from the Religious Right and Romney will have to walk back his statements or make some bumbling attempts to explain them in order to quiet the base.
On SOME issues -- yes, he can 'change his tune' and try to moderate the things he's said in the past -- but on other issues if he wants to keep the base they're just simply not going to let him walk things back.
Rick Santorum. Freaking Rick Santorum made a much better showing than many people thought he would and gave Mitt a bit of a run for the money because Santorum had more cred with the right wing than Romney did. In the end Romney's not ACTUALLY the candidate many of the social conservatives WANT and as such he's pretty much 'on probation' with them. They're going to force him into the box they want him in and if he threatens to get out of the box they WILL withhold their votes.
None of them will vote for Obama they'll just... refuse to vote for a Presidential Candidate at all.
Make no mistake, the lunatic fringe don't necessarily WANT four more years of Obama but they'll take THAT and focus on getting and keeping Republican majorities in the House and Senate to cripple Obama's policies and then wait four years and hope for a candidate more to their liking than vote for Romney if they feel he will just end up being 'quasi-Obama' on their dearly held social conservative issues.

Honestly I don't see me voting this year if Romney is the Republican candidate. We had perfectly good candidates, Cain sounded like he knew he was doing when he talked about business and the economy, and Paul seemed like he had a good grip on foreign affairs. But noooooo, being as dumb as the idiots who voted for Obama "because he was young and black" they voted for friggin Romney, now I'm stuck with two people I really don't want to vote for.
I'd much rather have somebody who votes on the basis of Obama being young and black (which are both somewhat true statements) than people who vote against their own beliefs on the basis of false propaganda. Because at least the youngness and the blackness has some basis in reality, as opposed to the idea that Obama is a Muslim, tanked our economy, has a worse plan for American healthcare than the Ryan budget, and has done nothing to slow unemployment rates, which are currently at the lowest they've been in years. I mean, give it up for the superficial people, if they took a single look at Obama, they've done enough research to develop an opinion on the things that matter to them.
