Re: I have just seen THE AVENGERS and... (possible spoilers)

I'm as big of Whedon-Geek as there is. If I could pull up all the gazillion discussion posts back from the alt.tv.buffy-v-slayer Usenet group, and the incredible discussions we had. I've got more DVDs of Whedon-run shows than I have of Godard and Hitchcock films combined. And trust me, that's a lot. Buffy. Angel. Firefly. Serenity. Etc. Books, DVDs, soundtracks, the whole 9 yards.

And it was Whedon's writing AXM and being involved in possibly writing and directing a Wonder Woman movie that got me to my LCS in the first place. I had never read comics before that.

All that being said, that doesn't mean that a Joss Wonder Woman movie would have succeeded. With Avengers, they had the whole groundwork laid already, with the individual films. And Avengers are a very popular property. Wonder Woman would have been a nightmare to make successful. It would have been out there on its own, with no build-up. And let's face it, as HUGE of a WW fan as I am, she isn't the most popular character, or the easiest character to portray in the world.

That's not saying that Joss couldn't have pulled it off. If anyone could, it would be Joss. But investing $100M-$150M in a movie that might, or might not work out?

Anybody have an opinion of what Joss Whedon should do next?

I'd like to see the remake of Logan's Run get made, and I think he'd be the man to get it greenlit.

Or a movie version of Key Of Z would be nice. It's a nice little zombie story.

It's Once Upon A Time In The West, but with zombies. Fun but a wee bit derivative. Not that that's ever stopped Hollywood before.

I've said it elsewhere but I reckon a neat strategy for DC/Warners - because they can't catch up on Marvel's ensemble superhero film lead now - but I reckon a Justice League International film could work. The public are now used to the idea of a superhero team and a lot of the critics have focused on the humour of Whedon's script.

    Bwahaha era? Perfect fit.

I'd love that, but the problem is it's easy to sell a film featuring characters people know like Cap, Thor, and Iron Man into a film with some unknowns like Hawkeye and Black Widow.

A movie composed mostly of unknowns (to the public) is not an easy sell.

Really? I think they'd both be great. Remember that people were bitching about the Avengers cast too.

Sorry I wasn't clear. Ugh as in what a terrible missed opportunity.
