Thread: Mad Men Season 5

    Re: Mad Men Season 5

    Yow!

I don't do spoilers and I'm not reading the EW article just to play it safe. The only thing I know from the last few weeks is that this seems to be the season of big deaths during season finales. It makes me wonder if Mad Men is going to continue the trend. Pete? Lane? Pete caught In flagrante delicto with his bit on the side and some nastiness follows? Sally Draper does more than just trip her step grand mother? Joan is way too strong to let recent events push her to do something rash. Isn't she? I know she'd sure feel like killing herself if her mother ever found out.

Is this show better than The Wire?

Nothing is better than The Wire but Mad Men is great (also different beast).

I don't really see how you can compare the two. Plus The Wire is complete and this thing isn't. Maybe when it is over, I can say.

I dig Mad Men, but if The Wire is the pinnacle of dramatic television there are a few other series I'd place above Mad Men to challenge for the crown; Breaking Bad being one of them.

I think Mad Men can be more easily compared more to The Sopranos or Deadwood than The Wire. And both of those comparisons would be silly too because apart from some themes there's nothing in common.

This brings up a good point. It's tough to compare one that's still currently in production to one that's a complete package.
Though I doubt when all is said and done Mad Men will be better than the Wire, it is one of the few shows that I could see really being a contender.
