Sometimes you advocate for what appears to be rationality when most (if not all) of us find what you're stating to be obvious. And when you do that (the other time I'm referring to is the homophobic letter from a comics pro we discussed last month) it has the appearance of mitigating or spinning the situation as if the people who are (righteously) upset are going to get out of hand. I know you'll probably take this defensively (as I would), but maybe advocating for the rational is better received when people are actually getting irrational and not beforehand. Take that as you will.

Denny's a friend of mine who's helped me out in the past, so I guess I got a bit caught up in defending him at first. I should let him do that, I guess. Backing away now.

Like I said, I can see why people are upset about this.

I just want people to know that Denny didn't suddenly decide he had this power to edit posts. I've seen it happen before.

In all my 35 years I honestly had never heard that word and had to look it up to make sure you weren't being ignorant.

It's like the word niggardly, which has nothing to do with the other word, but people still have to apologize for using it.

why apologize for niggling? or are you referring to niggardly?

I like old timey words... 'cause, ya know, I'm old timey. It's like when I got hooked on the word 'snigger', as in "I sniggered behind his back" (alt. for snicker, c. 1706). My husband read me the riot act for using it, because it sounded too much like the 'n' word. I pouted, but I respected his wishes. I will use it in type, however, since it's easier not to mistake it for the racial slur.

They're probably being cautious. This is one of those issues they don't want to find themselves on the wrong side of.

You pretty much can't defend this case without implying that Trayvon had it coming. And that's the kind of statement that pretty much gets most thinking people on both sides backing away from you very fast.

Fox News is falling down on the job. I expected them to spin people's outrage over the murder of an unarmed teenager as a lefty attack on gun rights by long before now.

I doubt that this will end with him not being charged. There's national attention on it, and the facts are clearly not on Zimmerman and the PD's side.

I think the guy will eventually be charged. There will be political pressure leveled on the police to that effect.
