Actually Marv Wolfman created the black Superman for the Legends of the DC Universe Crisis special in '99. Morrison just took the character and ran with it.

How come it's too silly? It's not an idea that's too often explored with Supes as the president. Hell we don't even know WHAT it's like outside of one page from Final Crisis.

And yeah, it is kind of weird he'd cheat the constitution. But I'm guessing that'll get covered.

How much did they really play with that though? Also IIRC, Byrne's version was some birthing matrix thing right? This version from Earth-23 is the classic origin.

But it only worked in Byrne's version, and that no longer happened.

Would actually be kind of cool if Morrison knew about that and worked it into his origins here to explain it.
