They could always bring in Monica Rambeau. Her powers are unique enough, and she'd satisfy the need to have another female member as well as the 'Not-Another-White-Person' quotient.

For sequels, there's a lot more possibilities, yeah. But they'd be better off if they were seeding them in the first one so they don't have to do a ton of set-up in the second.

Part of this is my intense hatred for Maria Hill, but I really think they missed the board by using her and not Carol.

Her character doesn't have to be established in Avengers. She can be established in Iron Man 3 or Captain America 2.
