I think this whole thing demonstrates what the right's real problem with birth control and even abortion is. It's not about their "faith". They violate their faith a dozen ways on a daily basis. it's just plain old Puritainism. They are uptight about sex and want to punish anyone who isn't.

It's power. It's the desire to be "the adults" that they're constantly claiming they are. They want to be the ones in control and the ones who always know best.

Problem is, as the contraceptives issue has proven, they often don't know shit about what they're talking about, and lack the humility to just keep their traps shut.

It's pretty apparent that this attempt at an "apology" is merely an attempt on his part to try and get away from this controversy as soon as possible so that he doesn't loose anymore sponsors.

You know, I've come to the conclusion that in almost every case, "I'm sorry," by itself is the only truly sincere apology. Once you start in on some long thing, with phrases like, "If I offended anyone," and crap like that, you might as well have not even tried to apologize in the first place.

The person to whom you're apologizing knows why you are apologizing. Just say, "I'm sorry," and be done with it.

Well, a lot of that is tied to sexual power. The sexual revolution put sexual power directly in womens' hands and birth control is wrapped up in that. With birth control women can have sex as they like without fear of getting pregnant. It also means that, for the first time, men had to negotiate with women over pregnancy -- i.e. if the woman didn't WANT to have a child then the woman doesn't HAVE to have a child so if the man wants a child it has to be a decision made deliberately by BOTH.

There is a Puritanical aspect though because to those with a stick up their butts it means women can have sex as they please without the potential consequences of a child out of wedlock. It means pleasure without potential consequences.

Basically what it all boils down to is -- women got completely outside the control of men. A single woman can live without any male supervision, on her own, make her own money, live her own life and control her own reproductive issues. There are some men who just never got over the idea that women need to be under male control. And if women can't be put back under direct MALE control then at least they can be put under GOVERNMENT control -- which is mostly run by men anyway.

More like sex out of wedlock, wedded Puritans had sex, they had a lot of sex, in fact it was practically a rule for them to have lots of sex. Under performing sexually or impotency were considered grounds for divorce.

I'd have never thought that they would approach this the same way I think about it:
