See, if Rich Johnston were dead already, this thread wouldn't even exist.
Cowards, all of you. :eyeroll:
Eh. My previous post was pretty weaksauce, so I had to make up for it somehow.![]()
Age of Apocalypse Nicghtcrawler is in X-Force
I'll be surprised if he comes back as the same cahracter. I'm under the impression that Marvel is weeding 'god' out of their comics to make them more athiest-friendly, since it seems that more and more readers are preferring it that way.
But that's just my impression, and may not be the cae. I just know that whey I first started reading comics several years back, several characters seemed to have a reverence for a higher being. Now they mostly have faith in themselves, only. I accept it whole-heartedly in Fantomex because that's part of what makes him so delightfully full of himself, but would hate to see 616 Nightcrawler changed into a faithless character like the rest have become.

das, I truly hope you are wrong, and considering that since Nightcrawler's death we've seen twice in Wolverine references to Nightcrawler's faith (in the issue where Wolverine delivers that piano and when Nightcrawler shows up as a heavenly figure in Wolverine's mind) I'm pretty sure that they're not trying to get rid of that aspect of his character.
Nah, with all the higher powers in the marvel universe creatin' shit, I doubt Marvel will ever be too "Athiest-friendly"

Yeah, I mean you've got Jewish characters (Kitty Pryde, the Thing), Catholic characters (Nightcrawler, Daredevil), Muslim characters (Dust), etc. Even characters with weird religions that haven't been invented yet like Askan'i (Cable). So it doesn't seem to me like Marvel is trying to do away with religion or religiousness in their books.
In the case of AoA Nightcrawler, it seems to me like Remender was just interested in the juxtaposition of that character (a godless killer) versus the original (a devout Catholic non-killer) who just so happened to be dead in the 616 Marvel U. And considering the fact that he knew he was going to lose Archangel by the end of the Dark Angel Saga, he just decided to replace him with this other blue-skinned dude and play around with that juxtaposition. That's my take on it anyway. Personally I'm not a big fan of the move as we already have enough AoA refugees running around the 616 Marvel U as is, but I'm starting to warm up to the character now that he's no longer reminding us that he's a killer and not "our friend" multiple times per issue. I'd have much rather seen Remender add Cable to this team to replace Warren now that he's back, as him fighting alongside X-Force during Second Coming was the highlight of that crossover to me. But that might've sent the title into "badass overload". Plus I'm not sure how he and Fantomex would play off of one another since they both have advanced weaponry, machinery inside their bodies (nanotech and techno-organics), and always seem to be a step ahead of everyone else and have their own agendas. It could be awesome, on the one hand, but also has the potential to be redundant on the other.
Regardless, UXF is awesome and one of my favorite comics at the moment (with WatXM being the other). Now what were we talking about again...
