Agreed, just inserting lyrics into a story is kind of weak. I think it's much more interesting when a comic manages to create a visual metaphor for how music feels. This sequence from Dave McKean's CAGES is a good example:

All I can think of is an issue of Robin where he has to protect pop star Normandy Sheilds (the writer was approaching 100 issues, okay?). The story is augmented by Normandy's brand of candy skank pop. It works because the connection to Oops I Did it Again era Britney is obvious, and most of that early 00's pop sounded alike anyway.

I'm glad you appreciate my sense of cynicism. But if any non-mod is to hit someone over the head on the Gail board IT'S ME MORTAL!

Yeah, this is why the songs in the Hobbit don't really work for me, cause I've never heard them sung. They're just songs that Tolkien made up, and I'm saying that as a LOTR fan.

Ha, I did a bit like that in one of my Lady Spectra minicomics...pop star "Whitney Pierce" is suspected of being a supervillain:

I'm a god, we're allowed to do such things.

In all seriousness though, I love Storm, I love the fact that there is in fact a popular black female character in comics, given how under represented they are in this form of entertainment.

What I don't like is them going with ideas that seem to have less to do with the character and more to do with the fact the character is black.

IE Hey lets marry her off to Black Panther! Cause you know, they're both from Africa! Never mind the fact that Storm already has been living in the states for years, is a nationalized citizen, and already has several established romances in the Marvel U (like Forge for instance).

I mean that's like saying, Hey let's have She-Hulk marry Daredevil! Cause they're both white lawyers from New York! Ok so She-Hulk is green, but you get the idea.

Same thing with Storm's singing career. Singing has never been in her wheelhouse that I can recall, I mean she's really not the type to get drunk at a karaoke bar. The whole thing just speaks stereotype to me. Sure it seems innocent enough, tell you look at it from this context.

Oh for the record, this is a Harry Morgan playing another character on M.A.S.H before he played Potter, just in case anyone gets confused.

I wonder how much money they've actually made doing this, Mac, can you get your hands on the numbers?
