But it's nowhere near as cool as Dave's.
Man. We have really lost that "extreme" feeling of comic art from the 90s. People tend tp play it safe nowadays. This thread has inspired me to try to get that back into my art as much as possible.
I've set the coolness bar pretty low!
I agree. I grew up seeing such bombastic art it makes sense that the pendulum has swung the other direction into more understated, natural art. But there's a excitement that is missing from it now. Also typical readers have also become not fans of stylized art these days.

Yeah. But then there's the other end where artists like Arther Adams and Butch Guice just get better. Both those guys' line work is sharper and more energetic now than ever and they are both older than Lee and Liefeld.
Wow, talk about a colorist doing all the heavy lifting there. That is almost unrecognizable as Liefeld. It looks nice, but Liefeld has little to do with it. I'd love to see what the pencils of that piece contain.
It's an effective way to present Liefeld's art, but isn't that good of an example of modern Liefeld art looking good, because it's almost incidental that Liefeld did the pencils. Also, all his line work is covered up. Say what you will about Liefeld's art, but when it was working back in the day, one of the best things about it was his expressive, energetic line work. That's why Danny Miki was such a great fit for him as inker.
I see what you mean. Also that's an interesting take. It's like he's so clearly established what his "style" looks like, that he's almost doing a shorthand of the "Jim Lee Style" instead of just naturally drawing his style. I think Lee is a virtuoso though, and any shortcomings with his current output has more to do with the realities of producing monthly full script comics today.
Yeah. Adams is the originator of the 90's popular style so it makes sense that he'd continue to grow, while his inspirees would be stagnant. Guice is just cut from that old school classic illustrator/draftsman cloth.
