Yes, I never criticized Obama on anything. Not a single solitary thing.
No he didn't.
To do something about Marriage would require a Constitutional Amendment. Obama doesn't have the political capital, and the current climate of partisanship in the country would make it damn near impossible for him to push something like that through.
You can accuse Obama of many different things, but not being pragmatic isn't one of them. Letting this issue get decided in the courts is probably the least difficult route to go.

I don't know whether it's more ridiculous for you to consider "hope" and "change" concrete campaign promises, or for you to be so selective about what constitutes "change" as to disqualify all of his accomplishments. But I do know that one thing more reprehensible than someone holding up a vague notion of "hope" as a slogan are the people who then attack "hope" as if it's the enemy. And I've seen enough of that to make me vomit. Hope is the only thing that makes change possible, and rather than mock the idea itself, Republicans would have been better served in 2008 by thinking of ways to inspire their own hope and use that as the capital of their campaign instead of the usual hate and fear tactics. They'd be a lot better served doing that now, in fact, since they have a serious problem with solid alternatives to the Obama policies they hate. It's really hard to claim to be concerned with healthcare when their solution's the Ryan Budget, for example. It's also really hard to claim to be concerned with the economy when they have a no-taxing vow and Bush-era policy advisors. Where's the hope supposed to come from?
I realize that some people are irrationally smitten by Obama. Does that keep me up at night? F*** no. Because I know that there's plenty more irrational hatred coming out of the other side to balance it out. And say what you will about people that voted for Obama because he's a black guy...at least they voted based on something that is a fact. And even a superficial fact is better than the fantasies regarding his citizenship or love of Shiara Law. Nobody has to worry that Obama is being treated unreasonably well by the public, believe me. If it bothers you that some people can't criticize the president because of his uneven record with gay rights, go and read the Fox News website where he just declared war on marriage. Better wear your flack jacket.
I also find it a bit disingenuous every time a republican claims Obama's a do-nothing president. If Obama were a do-nothing president, republicans wouldn't be shutting down the legislative process every other week when he tries to push something through. They wouldn't need to. The current level of Republican obstructionism doesn't really mesh with the idea of a President who is not interested in pursuing some very solid goals.
I agree with you on that, and I do part ways with Obama on his relatively conservative way of thinking when it comes to gay marriage. However, I will not turn instantly sign onto the Republican party because of this stance since there are people infinitely more broken in their way of thinking on this issue, and those people are actual conservatives.
