I'm going to take one shot, and only one at explaining this to you, so read this carefully because I'm not going to go a merry-go-round with you about this...
It is not about "judging" so stop talking about being or not being judgmental.
It's about reality. The reality is that there are distinct and quantifiable differences that exist right now in American society. An individual's racial, ethnic, and religious or non-religious background can have anywhere from a small to a profound effect on how that individual thinks about society and how that individual is perceived by others in society. This is a fact.
These differences can be measured and quantified and there is an actual science based on it, and companies who do it. Businesses use this data to target advertising and create products and services. (Free Market!) and politicians use it guide their political views.
The use of it by politicians to shape their platform is certainly questionable ethically, but if the data is out there, you can be damn sure they're going to go after it.
And not talking about it isn't going to make these cultural ebbs and flows magically disappear. They've existed for centuries and they'll exist for many more centuries.
