He strikes me as a very intelligent, analytical guy and there's not much to think about here. It's safe to assume that he knows what is right but he's doing what is practical, and I can't entirely fault him for it. Here's a snippet of the polls. I doubt Gingrich can convince millionaires to continue donations to a consistent third-place candidate. Romney and Santorum would have to fall into space for him to rise in the polls. He's pulling Rick Perry numbers now. He has zero residual big-media exposure. It's ovah.
He has passed a ton of shit he personally doesn't believe in. Mostly as a compromise to people who will never give him credit for it. Say what you will about Obama, he's proven himself to be a guy that can put his own personal beliefs aside if he thinks it'll benefit the country in the long-term. I don't think he will allow his belief in civil unions over gay marriage to influence his decision over whether or not there should be gay marriages.
