The attention and theatrics poured into that movie are fantastic. And people love to knock his Romeo and Juliet adaptation but it is possibly the most accessible filmed version of Shakespeare. It stylized it to film in a manner honoring how the plays are stylized to theater.

Australia is a bit bloated, but it really was his attempt at creating an Australian Gone with the Wind or Giant.

Plus the songs are damn catchy. And yeah I quite enjoyed Romeo + Juliet

Not seen Australia or Simply Ballroom but I may have to check them out.
