I think DKR will gross more overall, but I don't think it will have a higher opening weekend. DKR has no 3D showings, plus there's a good chance it's not going to be able to open on the same number of IMAX screen showings that weekend as there are a bunch of movies hitting IMAX between now and then (Dark Shadows, MiB3, Spider-Man, Madagascar 3, Prometheus) and some of them are going to steal some showings if not some screens on that opening weekend.
I think they're hustling those out of there quickly enough to get TDKR on all those screens. I'd be shocked if they didn't.

But overall, I agree. Is DKR even in 3D?

I could see it opening with something like 170-180 million, and then playing solidly through September. Meanwhile, once Avengers has essentially a free week with only Dark Shadows, the summer barrage starts.

As long as they let it keep some of the more darker/depressing stuff, that sounds awesome to me.

..And no damn sing a longs with the lil mermaid.

Kingdom Hearts was one of the more stylish and actually pretty damn cool things done with Disney property I can remember in quite awhile.
I get this all the time. They say, "You really hate Daredevil. Look how mean you are to Daredevil." I'm like, "Would you really buy a book about him enjoying a sandwich? 'What a great sandwich. I'm going to eat this for 22 pages, and I'm going to be so happy.'" I may do it just to prove a point. Have Wolverine going, "This is the best bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich I've ever had in my life!"

In fact, there has been a shitload of talk up to this point on this very board about how big a flop this could be based on Hulk's performance and the less than stellar Cap and Thor numbers. Now all of a sudden I see a lot of people saying "well, it's no surprise" when yeah it really is.
Those other movies were made after there original franchises had been run into the ground and so they opted for a gimmick movie to try and squeeze a few more dollars out of them. With marvel there was a plan from the beginning that they executed very well.

At the screening I was at, people stuck around for the trailer, gave it a standing ovation, and left the theatre. Without TDK trailer attatched, Avengers would have made probably around $30, 40 million tops. Don't get cocky fanboys, come July Avengers is going to be a minor footnote in cinematic history

    Wait, what?

    DKR is not in 3D.

And at the very least no way does Sony give up all IMAX showings of ASM within two weeks of release. I could see DKR getting the prime time slots, but I can also see them losing 1 to 2 showings per day to competition.

And yeah I think DKR hits around 170 and then plays on.

I've made it a point to avoid movies in 3D now. The colors are just completely muted. So I can imagine a dark movie like DKR would look like shit. Glad they didn't go for the cash-in.

Threes have never been good to superhero flicks. I think Bane, abit of a disappointing Catwoman and middle of the road word of mouth are going to drag this one down abit.
I still have high expectations because it's Nolan and he's not doing another batman for hell of it. He's using this movie to actually complete a trilogy. I believe this movie will bring it full circle. Where most superhero movies go wrong is they continue making sequels without the movies having any connection to each other until people get bored with it.
