    Browser (Firefox) freezing

For the last couple of months, Firefox has been freezing on me (for around ten seconds) during or immediately after loading the main page of the Bendis board (it seemed to be around the time the Twitter feed was loaded, but that could just be a coincidence rather than a causality). It used to be only every once in a while, and I figured it would get fixed eventually, so I just dealt with it.

But in the last several days it's gotten markedly worse. Now freezes occur almost every time I go to the main page, and often one freeze will end only to be followed by another immediately after. And not only on the main page, but sometimes within individual threads as well.

A few times, I've gotten error messages telling me the script that the browser was having difficulty with. Usually it's been this:

    "chrome://browser/content/places/controller.js:1544"

    and once it was:

    "chrome://browser/content/places/treeView.js:849"

Also, in the last several days (kind of corresponding with the increase in freezes), the "View first unread" link hasn't worked nearly as well as it used to.

Thanks for the heads-up and for the detailed error message report. I'll look into this and get back to you if I find any answers.

Any progress on this? It's really starting to make reading the board infuriating.

Although, I'm surprised others aren't complaining about the same thing, so perhaps it's a problem on my end. Not sure what I can do about it, though.

    Edit:

Oh, and I'm getting other script errors:

    Script: chrome://browser/content/places/controller.js:1607

    Script: resource:///components/nsLivemarkService.js:442

    Might be a plug-in issue:
Try to disable all plugins, then put them back on one by once to see if one causing this.

You could try to viewing the site in safe mode. That might help isolate the problem.

You might need to reinstall Firefox.

Happening to me ever since the last Firefox update.
Plug-ins are disabled; but doesn't seem to help.
just loading this page took over a minute.

    Re: Browser (Firefox) freezing

Even after putting it in Safe Mode, it still freezes. I ostensibly turned off scripts with the NoScript add-on, and it still freezes (and gives the "unresponsive script" error message). I'm running Firefox 7. For me, it's been at least a couple updates since this started happening - although, I don't remember the first occurrence corresponding exactly with an update.

I just did a clean re-install and it seems to be working fine for the moment.
    Add-ons, plug-ins and all.
    No idea why though.

    Re: Browser (Firefox) freezing

Just purged my browser's cache, and that seems to have done the trick.

Clearly, this was something I've long been neglecting to do, because the browser works much better in general (load-times are faster, scrolling is smoother, etc.).
