I liked both games. GTA IV I liked because if the story more than the actual game, some parts of the game just were not fun but I wanted to Soldier on to see what happened next. Saints Row 2 was just over the top ridiculous fun.

I got Saints Row 2 off steam a while back. I'm sure it's a good game, but I couldn't make much progress with the controls. When I got into a car I ended up swerving everywhere and wrecking it. But with GTA: San Andreas I could be really nimble with the cars. I really should take another shot at the game at some point and see if there is a way to get the handling under control.
    Don't worry, its not real.

Did you play them both on the comp? IME, driving on the computer is an exercise in failure unless you use a gamepad, so that might be the difference.

Handling definitely not as tight as GTA:SA but you can get used to it. Some cars are better than others and fortunately SR2's vehicles are more resilient and the garage is way better. Find some cars you like, purchase some upgrades, stick it your garage and they're always there and accessible from all your cribs, even if you wreck them. You can even unlock a feature where someone will deliver any vehicle from your garage to wherever you are. Eventually you'll only ever get stuck driving a car you don't like in certain missions, just gotta get past that hump of getting used to the sensitive handling.

If you really have to, the game has a pretty decent modding community and there are mods to tweak the handling. I recommend the mod that increases the resolution at least.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a well made game, but it got tiresome for me very quickly. I just think it's pretty overrated. When I played the GTAs of the PS2 era, I loved just screwing around, running over people, stuff like that. Saints Row embraced that, and GTA IV seemed to act like it didn't really want you to do so. I don't know, could just be me.

She didn't say it was the first, but you are right.

The first known open sandbox game was a game called Hunter in 1991. But many people don't know about it, hence why Channel Awesomes Benzaie did a games you might not know video about it here.

Also, depending on how you classify it, the Elder Scrolls game, Arena, predates the first GTA by a couple of years.

But then many of the earlier RPG's and Zelda like adventure games had a certain amount of open sandbox.

Yes but Saint's Row II doesn't have your annoying cousin calling you up to go bowling every other hour. Or force you to drive your cousin to work or pick up your date before you can have any actual fun.

I loved the first Saint's Row II, and I'm jazzed about the upcoming game.

I have a game pad, but moving the stick would cause the car to make a really sharp turn to the side, unless you made very slight movements. Maybe I n eed to find out how to adjust sensitivity?

As Prime said, it also depends on what your driving, or flying for that matter. For example never hop into a Thompson helicopter unless your confident of your piloting skills, as they have a tendency to wobble when the climb especially in bad weather, and its really easy to tip one over.

Which brings me to something else, heavy rain isn't just cosmetic, it will effect how well you drive or fly.

Already pre-ordered. I even got the Special Edition that comes with the Auto-Tune headphones. I've always wanted to beat someone to death with a dildo. Or drive a vehicle that sucks up pedestrians and uses them for ammunition. In a video game, I mean.
