I'm going to be really disappointed if we don't get to revisit these characters and see where things go from here. Hopefully Gail gets the chance to write these guys again at some point.
Just because Scandal wants to marry both Liana and Kay doesn't mean Liana and Kay necessarily have to end up in a serious relationship! They might both have a sexual/marital relationship with Scandal, but nothing more than friendship with each other. That would be the difference between a V (with Scandal at the point) and a triangle (where they're all connected).
I definitely think this group of relationships suffered from the mandated ending, but it was so lovely and in-character and unexpected that I definitely gave it a pas. I really liked that Jeannette was the one to push Scandal into it, too - she knows Scandal well enough, and has lived long enough, to see that the benefits outweigh any sanctions 'society' might apply.
That's how I took it, since a three-way relationship doesn't necessarily have to have all three parties involved with each other.
I just hope all three of them manage to find happiness somehow, and even if they never get revisited in my headcanon Scandal and Knockout break out of jail, take Liana with them, found the island of New Lesbos and live happily ever after. The end.
I do find it interesting that the issue brings up polygamy. That's the real twist. We've always had the lesbian / bi angle for the couple in the book. Of course polygamy is an odd thing. It seems to be something thought of by the rather socially liberal as well as the crazy conservative (though in a men marrying many young women way). Most of America would simply frown upon it and just thinking about it fries their circuits. Hell, even I gotta admit a single relationship seems a bit much at times. I can't even imagine trying to sustain a polygamorous one. I guess there was one time I kinda let a little something slide with one girl, maybe, I dunno. I didn't push it. Though it rather did explode, I think. Best not thought about. I do know one friend used to say he was interested in polyamory. Me? I'll be in mah bunk.
Personally, that's what I got when I read it. That Kay and Liana would have a relationship based on friendship and their love for Scandal.
I find Jeannette to be the 'mother' figure that Scandal had lost. I don't know...maybe it's just me, but that's the feeling I always get when I see the two women interact with each other.
