Brilliant update!! Marvel / icon bendis bagley

for those who don't know Briliiant is a creator owned comic created by me and Mark Bagley about college kids who discover the secret to super powers. it is due in july but hasn't shipped yet, here's why:

it was my quote unquote brilliant idea to go directly from Mark's pencils to colors. but then i decided people who were used to seeing us together on Ultimate Spidey and Avengers wouldn't find this experiment entirely appealing. Our colorist, Powers' Nick Filardi, obviously is crazy talented. this has nothing to do with him. Nick is a world class talent and is still the colorist of this book and Powers and Takio.

But more times than not pencils need to be inked and I apologize on behalf of the entire ink profession that we even attempted this.

So we took a step back and decided to reach out to comics legend Joe Rubenstien to come in and join us on this book that is so important to us. So, as we speak, he is inking away, and as you can see from the pages below we got the mojo going big time.

Later this week i will post full color new art previews.

This book will ship in august along with new issues of Scarlet and Powers. Subsequent issues of Brilliant will ship on time. I appreciate everyone who preordered and just wanted to let you know EXACTLY what was going on. Art is art and sometimes you think you have all the answers only to discover you don't.

So if you dug 'Death of Spidey' and 'Fallout' and are looking for some more original intrigue from Bagley and me, Brilliant is something you should totally preorder for your pull list.

I remember a small flashback scene from the Silver Sable arc of Ultimate Spider-Man where it was just Bagley's pencils and colors. issue 89.
