Someone pointed me to a copy this morning (I bet its gone by now, so don't ask). I don't typically follow stuff like that but morbid curiosity got the better of me.

Man. We had a real close escape.

BTW: There's even a part with a production instruction "pants will be darkened".

Anyone else transgress and watch it?

It was awful on so many levels. From the torturing the guy for information when she HAD HER FUCKING LASSO RIGHT THERE ON HIS CHEST to her murdering the security guard, all around awful.

So bad.

Also bad, that super-cliched "in da ghetto" opening scene. Soooo condescending on so many levels. "Mama! Mama!" (and later "Mama? Mama?" as the poor ghetto kid collapses).

Also also bad, Alan Dershowitz and was that Nancy Grace? Good lord. And the capper (or is that "crapper"?), Dr. Phil. Oh dear.

Also, yes, I'm going to say it.... there's some poorly written dialogue in there.

Not to mention the uncomfortable overtones of 'white woman swooping in to help poor "ghetto" young people'.

That really sunk David E. Kelly's recent series with Kathy Bates for me as well.

Okay, two good points (just so we're fair):

1.) The lasso actually DID wind up looking pretty good. I hadn't thought of what it would look like in quick motion (because comic books don't show that obviously) and that looked good (whereas the stills of it had looked kind of dumb). The super-quick snapping action of it is something I hope gets noted and remembered, in case someone else tries a WW live action at some point twenty years from now or so (probably how long it will take to live this one down).

2.) Palicki, in her Diana Themyscira the Businesswoman guise, ALSO looked pretty decent. The hair DID wind up working--at least in those scenes. Heck, even Diana Prince doesn't look bad.

Besides that? Nothing. Nothing good.

It was very. very, very awful. Thankful that this did not see air. I didn't watch all of it the torture scene was the end for me and her dialogue there was not any version of Diana i ever want to see.

I think Palicki was the best thing about it. I think she might be able to pull off the part with a proper script but she didn't get that here. Did Kelley just not know what to do with her or has his game fallen off that much?

Even if the pilot didn't butcher the character, it still would have been awful. It was just badly written, sloppy, and at times, surprisingly amateurish. It was also just plain boring, and was absolutely no fun.

But yeah, as a Wonder Woman fan, the most painful part was the horrible depiction of Diana. She was joyless, mopey, and self-pitying. That is, when she wasn't being a bitchy, angry killer/torturer. And the oddest thing was that it was no secret that she tortured people. Everyone knew about this, including the media, police, and elected officials. Yet, despite this, she never faces any consequences for it, legal or otherwise. In fact she's always greeted as a hero in public, and whines about the pressure on her to be "perfect." She displayed no positive qualities that would make people have this expectation for her, we're simply told that they do.

It's kind of like if Batman's secret identity was known, and his harshest methods were public knowledge (only more extreme, because at least Batman doesn't kill), but he were still, for some inexplicable reason, looked up to as a Superman-esque role model.
