The successor to the massively successful Xbox 360 may not launch for another few years, but graphics chip maker AMD told the Official Xbox Magazine that the next Xbox has graphics that will rival Avatar. The statement is very likely a bit of exaggeration, especially since AMD wouldn't even confirm that it's working on the "Xbox 720."
AMD also mentioned that the next Xbox will have enough processing power to populate individual reactions for enough pedestrians to fill Grand Theft Auto IV's infamously huge Liberty City.

AMD is not an announced hardware partner, but they are on the 360. MS is expected to announce the device at next years E3.

Would any home TV be able to display that level of graphics?
Perhaps. All the years have been melding together for me. Either way, it's not quite there.
Also, I was discussing with a friend how there's going to be a point where the capability is there, but the developers simply can't reach that level without spending too much money on man hours creating that level of detail. Think of it in the same way that animated movies are much more detailed than animated television. Unless creating superdetailed work becomes incredibly easier, I think we'll be hitting a plateau sometime soon.
