When I say movie of the summer, numbers is just a guess, but really I'm talking quality. This will be the most quality movie of the summer.
Quality has nothing to do with the box office.
Avengers would've made far less money if it wasn't available in 3D - that is a fact. Just like The Dark Knight would've made even more money 4 years ago if it was in 3D. There's a reason the whole 3D craze has stuck around - it inflates ticket prices, and thus box office returns. And it's why we see studios opting to convert movies to 3D after the fact, even when they weren't filmed with that in mind.

Lots of things sound impossible until they happen.
He's not wrong. There was definitely a gimmick factor that attracted new audiences. Otherwise, how do you explain the movie attracting people in numbers far greater than even the Iron Man films (which had been Marvel Studios' previous benchmark), especially when Thor and Captain America's grosses were nothing to write home about just a year ago? That $1.4 billion+ audience (who seemingly had no interest in the previous movies) had to come from somewhere and the idea of an unprecedented superhero team-up movie being what attracted them is not an unreasonable assumption to make.

No way it's better than Avengers.
Agreed.
Avengers was no gimmick but the first real superhero team to be done justice on film, the whole thing is legendary, the build up to it, hell, the fact that it even got made in the first place and not only that but effortlessly nailed it. By all rights it should have been a disaster.
That movie was pure magic. Deserved every last penny it earned.
I get this all the time. They say, "You really hate Daredevil. Look how mean you are to Daredevil." I'm like, "Would you really buy a book about him enjoying a sandwich? 'What a great sandwich. I'm going to eat this for 22 pages, and I'm going to be so happy.'" I may do it just to prove a point. Have Wolverine going, "This is the best bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich I've ever had in my life!"

Avengers was the ultimate geek-out comic book movie experience. No movie ever has better captured the feel and scope of a superhero universe.
That's not what Nolan's movie is going for, at all. I think Dark Knight Rises could easily be another epic urban thriller with Oscar-worthy writing, like Dark Knight.
The quality of these two movies compared to each other is going to be pretty much impossible to determine. Except for Sashas.![]()
