    Introduce Yourselves

Not obligatory, but if anybody wants to use this thread to say hello and who you are/what you're into, that might be nice.

I'm not familiar with a lot of the Benbo regulars who might drift this way and I'm thinking/hoping we'll bring some new faces in ourselves.

Let's make this more interesting than who I am/what I do...

    How about...

    What's your name?
    Where are you from?
    Do you have a blog/tumblr? A comic?

    and... pick one or more:

    1) Write us a haiku
    2) Tell us what your autobiography ought to be called
    3) What's the best job you ever had?
    4) What's the worst?

    Re: Introduce Yourselves

First ever post on Jinxworld. I know a few of the folks already on the boards which is nice because they are nice folks.

I've a couple of blogs but I'll post them later so as to not raise the red flag on my first few posts. They blogs have nothing to do with comics but with my hobbies which include hiking, art/craft and photography.

Here are a couple of bad haiku:

    #1
    Cold coastal fog moans;
soft, low, wet and distant cry
    the harbor horn calls.

    #2
    Winter rain softly
    spatters purple lavender,
    my gift from summer.

    All for now.

    Re: Introduce Yourselves

I'm Eugene Fischer. Call me E. J. I'm from San Antonio, but am going to move to Iowa City in approximately forty days. I have an infrequently updated blog at eugenefischer.com, which is mostly useful as a jumping off point to my twitters and librarythings and whatnot.

The best job I've ever had so far was being a student, so I'm going to do it again. My worst job was an SAT tutoring job where my student's mom hovered over my shoulder during every lessons and supplied editorial asides about how my student's performance on practice questions was reflective of personal character, likelihood of future happiness, and the weighty expectations of society.

    Howdy!

I'm Chad Collier. Originally from South Florida, I've lived in Los Angeles for the last 15 years working in vfx, which is where I picked up 'wedge' as a second name. I'm mostly on twitter (@wedgex), just started a tumblr for myself (also wedgex). My darling bride Janice, who ought to be around here sometime, I think, dragged me back into following comics when we met.

    in obviously no particular order:

    4) I worked at a Waldenbooks in high school for about 3 months. I had to wear a tie. A skinny 80's tie.

    3) I spent the last year of film school working at the Miracle 5 movie theater in Tallahassee, FL. A combination of great geek managers and eccentric coworkers made it a delightfully strange experience worthy of its own sitcom or Judd Apatow film.

    1) New town, same story
I thought you would be bigger
    Now we skinny dip

    2) "I Think We Used Too Much..." (yeah, it's on my tumbr, too, it's a recurring theme)

    Re: Introduce Yourselves

My name's Adam Witt. I was born and raised and spent most of my life in Chicago. Early this year, I decided on a change of scenery, so I moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It's been pretty great so far. I dig the east coast.

I don't have a blog or a comic (yet!) but feel free to follow me on Twitter (@adamwitt).

    Haiku:
    Machinery thrives
    Ever urging skyward, wise
    Like grassroots through stone

My bio would be called Already There.

I can only come up with a kind of medley of good job experiences. Working at a comic shop with all my friends (I was the only official employee, but we all ran the place) was great -- and I love any place that encourages me to talk about the stuff I love incessantly. I also worked at an independent used bookstore with very, very cool people, and got merchandise for a steal -- so, I got to read a ton of stuff I never would've read since it was available for next to nothing.

Worst job? I worked at a big-box retail chain (whose name may rhyme with Shmarget) in the backroom. On the first day, the manager cursed at me constantly (not a problem 99% of the time, but this was some capital H Hostility), and a co-worker told me, "They're supposed to give us hardhats, but they don't..." I hung on for five days.

    Nice to meet y'all.

    Haiku:

    Even after four minutes
    My microwave sucks

    Re: Introduce Yourselves

Ardaniel by preference ("Ard" also works), Janice Collier on the state ID. Wedge is my geek-bearded other half; we live in Los Angeles, although I followed Whitey Bulger out here somehow. I am a VFX geek by profession and a 25-year Marvel Zombie by the grace of Stan. I blame Chris Claremont for my unhealthy, perverted love of folk music.

I have a tumblr at Time to Redraw the Map Again; Chad and I have a blog that gets postings depending on how hectic things are at Department H. Updates have been few and far between while I sort out some medical issues, but who knows, they may return to a semi-regular schedule eventually. (I'm not going to die; I'm just being inconvenienced in a number of comical ways.)

Searching my hard drive provides me with a haiku that was, in fact, written on the job at one of the more mundane jobs I had. August 29th, 2000, 3:49am:

    BBC website
    isn't responding to GET.
    oops, that was my bad...

Yeah, I broke the entire BBC America website that night. Managed hosting sysadmin: not always the most straightforward of systems jobs...

Not the worst job I ever had, though. I was a call-center rep for Ticketmaster, *and* the state park services of like three different widely-separated states, *and* Hearst Castle tours, *and* some shit involving elephant seals, for... four months? five months? at one point. That job featured weird come-ons from dudes in Brevard County, FL, being called a dyke (I am, but, really, you don't have to constantly remind me) every 10 minutes by a 17-year-old Eminem clone, getting put on probation *and* getting a raise the same day, and a QA evaluator who could casually drop "well, like my fourth ex-wife used to say..." into meetings.

Really. And that's not even mentioning the flock of seniors, almost all over 70, who were stuck working there to keep their health insurance from the state. Or the people who used to call for Cypress Hill tickets and introduce themselves with a hearty bong hit and five minutes of silence. Or... yeah, it was something else. Something I never want to repeat.

On the other hand, once I got into VFX-- and I think I was one of the last people into VFX before it became a Career Path and not just a job you got because nowhere else would tolerate your antics and you knew Unix-- I spent a pretty awesome handful of months doing a menial, repetitive, digital-art sort of task on the JJ Abrams Trek reboot. And it was more awesome than I expected when I got to see it completed, and I mysteriously acquired a field promotion to lead artist during that show, and holy shit the last note of "Sabotage" just fading into that matte shot of Vulcan, you know?

    So, uh, that's me. Hi!
