Easy. The name's not available for legal reasons. (Shockingly, not because of the band, though.)
So Kelly, how did TPTB (Matt? You? Marvel?) resist naming Rescue "Iron Maiden"?![]()

My suggestion was FERRA, which I thought was terribly clever. I think I only entertained myself there.
To be perfectly honest, I vastly prefer Ferra to Rescue. I love the idea of Pepper Potts in armor, and the idea that she's a defender/protector instead of an aggressor, but the name is a little bit on the nose. It's one of those names you hear and think "they're running out of superhero names"
There's already a character named Iron Maiden in the Marvel Universe.
Iron Maiden
Wikipedia entry
As mentioned in the Unofficial Marvel Appendix entry the character closely resembles the Iron Maiden created by Wally Wood for THUNDER Agents, which is the character I would suspect creates the possible legal issue with using the name. She is currently appearing in Nick Spencer's version of the title, being published by DC.

I liked "Iron Man Woman" when Matt came up with it.
I rather like FERRA- though it simultaneously conjures images of the armor in the Farrah Fawcett swimsuit poster pose- but ultimately I think it was the best choice to not make it a derivative name. I like the idea that it exists outside Tony's overpowering influence, intentional or otherwise.
I like RESCUE a lot, but I have to say, FERRA is pretty darn nifty too!Originally Posted by Kelly Sue
