IGN's list of top 100 comic book heroes.

My favorite Flash is #8 in the top 10!

Wally West: neglected, mitigated, even ridiculed by spokesmen from his own company...but not forgotten.

Barry also placed #49, so that's two Flashes in the top 50. Not bad.

Here's the top 20 in video form:

Great to see Barbara Gordon all the way up at #17!

Very happy to see Renee Montoya, John Stewart, Black Panther, and Hawkeye there.

Very confused by the inclusion of the Wasp and Black Lightning.

i'm not clicking through any more of that. but once more, Wolverine is overrated and the Hulk is incorrectly called a hero.

Hulk has saved the earth and reality dozens of times... He's a hero.

Re: IGN's list of top 100 comic book heroes.

*Insert my usual rant about how Renee should be higher and she's awesome and better than everybody else*

It is nice to see Renee placed on the list, especially since (Despite her recent rise in prominence) she doesn't have as much broad-based market penetration as some other characters. Despite my fanaticism I recognize that she is neither as popular nor as financially successful as other heroes, so getting on the list at all makes my day. Also, I noticed that her description gets two paragraphs whereas most of the others only get one; she might be low at #87, but it's clear the author of this list liked her and wanted to make sure she got the attention she deserved. Nice. I am, however, confused that she managed to outpace Usagi Yojimbo. Yeah, I like her better, but I really thought that deadly little rabbit would have ranked higher on somebody else's list.

I noticed that, on Superboy's entry, they mentioned that his story is now being told in the Young Justice TV series, but didn't mention that he also has his own ongoing title. I get that TV shows have a much wider appeal than comics, but wouldn't his original medium at least merit a mention now that he has a starring role?

Oh, god, is that picture for Black Canary from All Star Batman and Robin? That's the iteration of the character that they pick to symbolize the whole? Ugh. Another two-paragraph entry, I might be reading too much into things, but does it disturb anybody else that the second paragraph is about her relationship with Green Arrow? More specifically, they describe her, in her entry, with how she related to him, namely that her true power is that she can get him to shut up. I admit that is an impressive ability, but her character is more than Green Arrow's girlfriend, and her abilities are more than "Can influence him." I know you can see sexism everywhere if you look hard enough, but it really is a problem when heroines are described only as how they relate to the men in their lives. Arrow's entry has a single sentence mentioning Canary, and then only as a feather in his cap.

I find it interesting to look at the length of the description that each character gets. Both Catwoman and Barbara got three paragraphs, whereas most (Including characters placed higher on the list and with much broader appeal, including recent blockbuster movies) only had one and a few had two. Interesting. I think it shows that the creator of this list, even if he thought other characters were "better," felt that they deserved to be heard more, as only a few of even the top ten also reached that length. Very interesting.

Did you check out the video run down? Believe me, that guy on the left is Greg Miller, and his favorite Superhero of ALL TIME is Kon-El. I'm sure they were afraid they'd never be able to get him to shut up once he started talking about Superboy.

In the writer's defense, he specifically said Superboy's story was being told "in a new form" in Young Justice. I think it was assumed he'd obviously been in the comics.

True enough, it was mentioned that Superboy originally appeared in the comics, I guess I just felt like the current series, since it's new that such a series exists, should get a mention. Superboy spent most of his history in other people's books (Importantly, of course) and in team and event series, but here it's his name in the title.

These lists would be better if they just left them alphabetical and stopped making me wonder exactly how they decided #63 was better than #64, etc.

Usually these lists leave me shaking my head, but that's actually a pretty good one.
