I like "Born this Way" but I can't help but feel like Gaga is trying too hard

really.. I do like the song, but after hearing it a bunch, I'm starting to feel like it's . . . pandering to me.

unlike, say, these two. . which are not only fantastic songs, but so damn earnest.

they just simply don't feel as "manufactured" as Gaga's does.

I like it as well, and I totally agree that I did find it a tad pandering. Not as bad as Katy Perry's "Fireworks" (which coupled with the video, seemed like an attempt to get gay people off her back after "Ur So Gay" and "I Kissed a Girl"), but yeah, you're right on the money.

I'll never like Katy Perry after those two songs.

As for "Born This Way," my first thought after hearing it was that it sounded like "Express Yourself." That, and that Gaga is setting up her career slump/aging diva phase with a gay anthem to play at pride parades.

"Born This Way" is the first GaGa song i haven't liked. not because of the message, but because of the sound.

To reference Nostalgia Chick, So, she's trying to hard to pretend she doesn't have talent?

Damn, it totally does sound like "Express Yourself." And not in the "you can sing 'No Scrubs' by TLC over Green Day's 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' and vice versa" way. The hooks on the Gaga and Madonna songs are pretty much identical.

She's actually a competent musician and song-writer who has a limited vocal range but can produce some really good songs.

I know, hence why I say she only pretends to not have talent....

Actually here, I think the best way to explain the Nostalgia Chick reference is to go directly to the source.

pretty sure she's admitted it's an Homage to Madonna, so if Madonna has no issue w/ that part, then niether do I.

I think the IDEA is great, but the way the message is conveyed is what's ruins it for me on this one.

"don't be a drag, just be a queen"?

    compare that to:

Wanna scream out, no more hiding
Don't be afraid of what's inside
Gonna tell ya you'll be alright
    In the aftermath

    Anytime anybody pulls you down
Anytime anybody says you're not allowed
Just remember you are not alone
    In the aftermath

    or:

'Cause you are beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring you down, oh no
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

    really. .there's just no comparison.
