welcome to America.
So right now I'm waiting my turn for an oil change and the woman next to me is talking to her friend on her mobile. She's talking to her about how last night was her birthday and that her boyfriend and some other pals took her out to dinner. She chose a place none of them had ever been to. So they go in, order bottled water and get the menus order their food and they enjoy their meal.
Well they get the bill and it's wicked expensive. 7 dollars each for the water. So it meant that all four of them have to chip in to pay for the meal. So after she said that I wondered why none of them looked at the prices on the menus when they ordered their food and did the math then. So she complains 'It was my birthday! I shouldn't have to pay ANYTHING on my birthday! And now I'm broke till my next paycheck!' So I'm thinking you chose the place you didn't have the foresight to find out the prices before ordered anything and your friends are now broke too and you’re complaining? You spoiled brat! Jeez people these days.
EDIT:
Thanks to all your point of views I now realize if someone offers to pay for you meal yeah it sucks that you have to end up paying for it. That makes absolute sense and you have the right to bitch about it. I would complain a bit but if the circumstance called for it I'd be happy to help out my friends. I don't want them screwing themselves over because it's my birthday.
But ultimately you should not be selfish. You should not go over board and hurt your friends’ financial resources and you should have the foresight to research a place's prices. Just because it's your birthday it doesn't give you carte blanche to act like a selfish brat. It's not all me, me, me. Yeah it's your birthday but you don't have the license to be a jerk because it is.

Why order bottled water at a restaurant?
"Some guy on the net thinks I suck and he should know; he's got his own blog." -- Nick Hornby
Lots of restaurants, particularly the nicer ones, don't list the price of beverages on their menus.
So it's okay to throw a temper tantrum about your birthday being so special you shouldn't have to spend any money at all that your day. That everyone is obligated to pay for you on that oh so special of days. That you only care about yourself and who gives a fuck that your friends are broke now too. That you don't have the foresight to ask for the fucking prices if you they aren't on the menu? I've been to restaurants with menus like that and I asked how much the drinks, food, etc were.
There are better things to complain about than showing what a spoiled brat you are. So Ben your opinion is noted and thrown out the window. I like people to act with their minds and with some dignity and class now adays. Sadly you are not one of those people. Oh well.
EDITED..
And sadly I can get pushed by the smallest of things and act like an ass hat as well. Sorry Ben. Looks like you set me off and I apoligize for not acting with some dignity and class.
