Yes, exactly that.
It's very spotty to begin with (and even, arguably, later on too), with great arcs and stand-alone issues mixed in with some pretty poor and generally lower-quality stuff, but then at some point you realize that you have been pulled in.
For me, it was around the famous "Dangerous Habits" arc, which I believe was Ennis' first run on the book, somewhere around the #40's.
YMMV.
No worries, brother.
I'm always happy to help out with the funny books where I can, you know that.
And yeah, I really need to get to that Vertigo pile.
It's only *this* far away from 300 issues now.
I want to get to it, you know how much I love the entire Vertigo imprint, that's why I deliberately left it for last, but things just seem to keep getting in the way.
Oh well, soon.
If it makes you feel any better, I am behind on The Unwritten. I made a decision a little while back that I'm not in a rush and I want to savor it. I think sometime soon though. I've been anxious to read it.
I know you do. And we'll be seeing 4 more titles soon enough. Which of the new titles are you looking forward to? Not to totally hijack this thread.
Honestly, Saucer Country is the only one I have any real interest in at this point.
The others just haven't gripped me at all.
That said, I should probably point out that I have taken a slighty new approach (for me) to comics this year. I am doing my best to avoid all hype, previews, solicitations, interviews, etc etc.
The comic hype machine burns me out on a book quicker than a hundred super-picky net-nerds on a forum like this.
Take AvX, for example. The first issue doesn't even come out for another month (two?) and I'm already sick of it.
So, when I say those other books haven't gripped me, I am going purely on: Title, creative team and the cover of the first issue of each, because that it literally as much as I know about each one.
I'll be checking out at least the first issue, probably the first full arc, of each book.
At this point though, SC is the only one I am looking forward to.
I picked up the Bulletproof Coffin and I'm kicking myself for not buying the floppies. That was one fine funny book.
Got the Fall of the Hulks OHC today.
I pretty much tuned out everything Hulk-related after World War Hulk, because it just seemed like the concept got completely out of hand with 48 Hulks running around the Marvel universe..
But I've heard too much good about this to keep putting it off.
