Thread: Shane Black to write and direct Iron Man 3?

Downey is the one actor that Marvel would be insane to let walk away.

Even if there isn't an Iron Man 4 (though I think that will largely depend on how Iron Man 3 is received both financially and critically with the new director), at the very least he should be in The Avengers 2.

I dont think Downey's going anywhere. He's seems to be having too much fun with the role

Re: Shane Black to write and direct Iron Man 3?

    New cast member announced-

James Badge Dale In ‘Iron Man 3′ Talks

Iron Man 3 Gets Another Bad Guy—Who Is He?

Tony Stark, better beef up that armor, because you're latest nemesis has a thing for heavy metal.

Former 24 star James Badge Dale has signed on to do battle with Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man 3, playing a character named Lt. Col. Eric Savin, per Variety. And Fanboys down with Iron Man's rogues gallery know that Savin is not a nice person.

He's better known as cyborg baddie Coldblood—sort of Marvel's version of Robocop, only the future of law enforcement he's not.

Per Marvel lore, Savin steps on a land mine and becomes reanimated via cybernetic surgery, given new artificial limbs, a mechanical left eye and put to work as an urban fighting machine whose built-in guns and body armor give Iron Man a run for his money.

Whether or not Coldblood's origin story appears in the sequel is a mystery; Disney, Marvel and helmer Shane Black have kept a tight lid on the plot. (The studio declined to comment on the report of Badge Dale's casting.)

But speculation has focused on Iron Man 3 taking its cues from the six-issue Iron Man: Extremis arc, which finds our hero trying to halt the spread of a nanovirus.

It's not known how Coldblood will be tied to the movie's big bad, whose identity remains unknown but whom the studio confirmed in April will be played by Ben Kingsley.

Badge Dale, 34, is probably most recognizable role was Chase Edmunds in Fox's 24. He was also the lead in AMC's short-lived political thriller Rubicon, acted opposite Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon in The Departed and was one of the principals in the HBO miniseries The Pacific. He'll also appear with Brad Pitt in the upcoming World War Z and with Johnny Depp in The Lone Ranger.

Iron Man 3 starts shooting this month in North Carolina before moving to China, with Robert Downey Jr. back in the saddle after helping taking The Avengers to the box office stratosphere with $1 billion-plus grosses (and a reported $50 million payday).

Other IM3 newbies include Guy Pearce and Rebecca Hall, who is expected to play rival to Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts, while Don Cheadle returns as Col. James Rhodes/War Machine.

Never heard of Coldblood. I hope they don't cram too much in.

Is he playing a character from Extremis? I can't remember.

To the best if my knowledge Cold Blood has never even appeared with Iron Man. He had a solo multi part story in Marvel Comics Presents and showed up a few times in the 90's Deathlok series.

Soooo it looks like Kingsley and Pearce as rival businessmen, and Coldblood as the henchman, perhaps the first Extremis enhancile made by Rebecca Hall before the process is perfected on Tony?

But still... why Coldblood? There was no other IM character they could find to fit?

Saw it mentioned elsewhere, but it makes perfect sense..

It could be a way to introduce cyborg tech into the MCU for when we get Winter Soldier in Cap 2 (or 3)

From a story perspective, as much as we want to see him, the Winter Soldier really shouldn't appear until Captain America 3. The 2nd film really needs to focus on Cap as the man out of time dealing with the loss of everyone he ever knew while at the same time dealing with something relating to the war. Ideally you would have half the movie set in the present day and half set in unseen WW2 flashbacks, and have him deal with present day Baron Zemo who would naturally be the son or the grandson of the Baron Zemo that he fought in WW2 (which will be shown in those flashbacks).

Yeah, save Bucky's return for Cap 3. Build up to it a bit rather than doing it right away just for the sake of it.
