Jail is not the answer in my opinion. Was she wrong? Yes. Were her intentions good? Yes. She did what she did for the sake of her children. The situation is worsened for those children by putting their mother in jail. I'm not condoning what she did but I do understand why she did what she did.

Seems way too harsh. The judge seems like she wanted to make an example out of the woman.
Given that it'll keep her from getting her teaching degree, I can see a lot of pressure for a pardon. The jail sentence (ten days) isn't the concern, really.
