Exclamation Chiller 13: The Decade's Scariest Movie Moments

    http://www.chillertv.com/schedule/?s...ovie%20Moments

Cable channel Chiller revealed their list of the top 13 scariest films of the decade:

    13. Drag Me to Hell
    12. The Strangers
    11. Final Destination
    10. The Orphan
    9. The Descent
    8. Hostel
    7. 30 Days of Night
    6. Cloverfield
    5. 28 Days Later
    4. The Mist
    3. Saw
    2. Paranormal Activity
    1. The Ring

I think "scary" is the word adjective for some of these films. For example, I don't think Saw or Hostel were scary as much as they were repulsive (I hate gore and I'm not a fan of torture porn, even if it has a kind of "moral" like Saw). The Mist was utterly tragic and an indictment of humanity, but I don't know that it scared me. The Strangers simply made me angry at the two leads because of their stupidity. The Ring was kind of scary and the early parts of 28 Days Later were kind of scary. Paranormal Activity was VERY BRIEFLY scary.

What do you make of the list?

Hostel offends me to the core as a movie lover. At least (the first) Saw has a story in between all the noxious goriness. (Plus it has Ben Linus)

The Ring scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it (I was like 11.)

28 Days Later should be No. 1, IMO. That movie was great. It was scary, but ultimately, it was also a good movie.

Also, saddened by how low Drag Me To Hell is on that list, that movie really freaked me out.

I found Cloverfield scary, but I've always had a fear of large things and sea monsters.

Drag me to Hell is an odd one. I found it more funny than scary.

Haven't seen most of the others.

I loved Cloverfield. It and 28 Days Later are the only two films that I actually bought on DVD after seeing both in the theater.

But I was more afraid for the characters that I was afraid myself.

Cloverfield was one of the rare modern horror movies where the characters actually had fun personalities. I loved that scene where the camera guy starts talking about Superman when they're in the tunnel.

I was scared for myself. Seriously, I had a full on phobia of sea creatures as a kid.

30 Days of Night was excellent. I prefer my vampires to be of the repulsive, nocturnal, supernatural evil non sparkly breed.

I've never cared for vampire movies. I do enjoy the books though.
