The newest Unwriten was fantastic. A 60+ page comic done in 33 pages. AND a choose your own adventure book to boot.
I agree with the pixelated look of the printing.
I got to see the pages in all stages of production, and Tan's work was nothing short of amazing. Jose's coloring was spectacular as well. But when I cracked open the book it just looked...off.
As for Blake/Thor...by issue #5 you'll get an answer that's official for his origin, until it's contradicted later!![]()

I'm sure you read the Journey into Mystery stuff for this project or before. Donald did something similar to Captain Marvel (Shazam) in that his appearance changed and he was able to use Thor's body, but then Thor himself began to overlay that to the point where they switched places like Captain Marvel and Rick Jones. I don't recall any explanation for that either. And the way Thor is at this stage in the story, if Cobra and Mr Hyde approached him as he is now he would probably kill them immediately for their effrontery. So I'm thinking that part of this will be Thor smoothing out a little. I don't remember what it was that Thor was being punished for that he had to be stuck inside a walking stick where no one would find it (let alone think to hit it against something) in the first place.
Like I said, I thought it was my eyes being weird but hopefully it'll be resolved next issue and for the collection.
carlgiannini: All I wanted to know is what trades have been released. Now I've committed to spend an extra hundred or two on comics. What happened here?
The Lord Retail: I happened. Lord Retail happened to you. I'm sorry friend, but I simply can't turn it off..

Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine 3 was fucking fantastic! One of my favorite comics out right now.
"Brian Bendis is one of the most profane and potty-mouthed people I know. The saltiness of the language that comes out of his brain makes Scarface blush. I mean, you can't imagine the stuff he says. Stuff like "#$%^knuckle" or "Monkey #($*%&^%!" Oh and then there's "Your Mother's @#$%^% cystic #$%^%!" I mean who thinks of these things?"-Joe Quesada
I bought it on a whim, but Captain America: Patriot #1 was damn solid. I honestly don't think I've read anything by these creators before, but the art and coloring were amazing. I'm very interested to see where this goes...
Went through some more in the almighty stack
Deadpool- I was never a huge Deadpool fan but I've really enjoyed this run although lately it's been hit or miss. The past few issues in Vegas had an interesting concept but it went on way too long. This issue was sort of back to basics for me as it fit into that formula with Deadpool that I enjoyed...him just being ridiculously stupid and dense and everyone around him realizing this. There were a few laugh out loud moments including the whole 'is he or isn't he a terrorist' and the Secret Avengers cameo was just great.
8.5
Morning Glories- Excellent second issue. This is a book that feels like it's been planned out years in advance with different layers being revealed slowly but surely. I'm loving the characters. I'm loving the school. And I'm loving that feeling of 'something just aint right' with just about everything involved in the academy. The art is stellar. These aren't capes and tights and monsters holding a readers attention, just regular people and Eisma does a great job with his panels and drawing to keep it as engaging to look at as a superhero/monster slugfest would be. Another strong effort and cool cliffhanger to boot.
9.5
Amazing Spider-Man- I liked this issue only slightly better than the first. The art didn't bother me quite as much because Spider-Man was in costume the whole time and the costumed characters looked a lot better than the 'real' people. Still gotta question Spider-Man's judgement in carrying/swinging a newborn through the streets of New York as a variety of super villains and cops chase after him. Not the most responsible course of action. Eh, I'll ride this out till 'Big Time'
