Not entirely true, if your are in lower income bracket in your community and still in the top tenth percentile of the world population, that's pretty significant.

And... yeah, this is skewed a bit, but still interesting.

Not at all. Let's say the income is 20k a year US. That puts you in the top 12% Pretty good, right? No, try raising a family on 20k and see how rich you feel, chances are you're almost just as poor as those in other countries making a lot less.
