I love it when a good genre movie is made in my country. This independent movie just won an award for best camera and comes with high praise by Roland Emmerich.

I was just looking for new horror flicks to watch and came across this list of films from 2011. I've seen most of them and agree with all of their selections. The couple that I haven't seen, I'm amending.

Ooooh, The Woman and Sion Sono's latest are out.

Did you already watch Retreat (2011) by Carl Tibbetts?

I picked up Michael Bay's Friday the 13th on DVD for $5 this weekend. I'm eager to give it a rewatch. It was a pretty solid flick, and I loved the little Transformers crossover.

Actually liked it more the second time, probably because I was prepared to hate it the first time around. There are still parts of it that don't work, but it's by-and-large a perfectly acceptable reboot.
Funnybook of the Week - I read 'em, I rank 'em. Based on nothing more than my personal enjoyment.

Twitter Feed - Just as inane as a blog, but shorter.

Magnet will release V/H/S on demand in August. I'm looking forward to renting that one.

Yeah, I can't wait as well. Are there other ways to get On Demand movies if you don't have cable?

The remake A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) was surprisingly good. Rooney Mara and Thomas Decker were well cast, but Kyle Gallner gave a similar performance as in The Haunting in Connecticut (2009) and demonstrated again that he is a seriously underrated actor. Missing are some of the more surreal moments when Krueger attacked the teens in the original, that enhanced the film's nightmarish quality. Instead, Bayer keeps it more grounded in realism, though not as brutal as the French New Extreme or the torture porn movies of the last decade. The new A Nightmare on Elm Street could have used some of the madcap energy of Raimi's Drag Me to Hell (2009), but this is one of the better Michael Bay produced remakes of horror classics.
