    Anyone Following The Arizona Saga?

Ya know all this stuff with the bill? So, what exactly has happened? The bill went into effect, but only certain parts?

It's confusing. Apparently, enough of the bill got blocked that they essentially can't enforce it. Which makes some people very happy and some people very angry.

It's going to take the full US Supreme Court to make a final ruling on it.

Meanwhile, conservative lawmakers in almost every state are claiming that they're going to get a similar law on the books in their states. Fortunately, most states won't stand for it.

    Ah, okay.

So how exactly did the federal government intervene. Did they say it was unconstitutional or something?

They argued it steps on their sovereignty. Which is a decent argument, but really, this entire debate has been dominated by the clowns on both sides. The rhetoric has just been insane since the start.

I agree. There are shockingly unrealistic demands on both sides. Legalization for all illegals is something that I just don't think is feasible, as is the idea that we can somehow get them all out and make sure nobody gets back in.

There has to be some sort of middle ground that nobody is thinking of.

I'm for a probation period. Essentially, you come forward and register as a resident alien, and if you stay out of trouble for a certain amount of time, you begin the citizenship process.

However, this has to be balanced with better border security, because letting undocumented people come into this country without anyone able to keep an eye on them is a massive security risk.

Can you run for congress? Because I'm stupified that such a simple yet fair statement like that hasn't been brought up.

Since I live here, it would be dumb for me not to follow it.

I can see both sides--on one hand, considering that the illegal immigration is considered to be a key factor in drug wars that have been going on the past few years (Phoenix, if I remember my stats right, is second only to Mexico City as having the highest kidnapping rate on the planet, where one person is kidnapped every day), so it's plain to see that there needs to be some sort of big changes to try to stop this crap at the border.

On the other hand, it would be better for regular people to have this in a way that couldn't be so easily abused.
