First...Congrats to Matt! Hopefully everything goes smooth, but in a twisted sort of way, I would like to see Olney fight this one, since we all know he will lose very badly. It would be nice to see him truly get what he's desreved for a long time, be it actually monetary destruction, or even jail time.
Second...seems Rick's delusions of grandeur are surfacing again, via his latest ego-blog post (bold is mine)...
Some truly funny stuff coming from Rick! And surprising that he didn't play the pity card for himself, with the reference to Steve Jobs' cancer, in relation to his own "struggles" (that I still feel are either false, or greatly exaggerated)."Friday, October 07, 2011
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life,” Jobs said. “Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” - Steve Jobs, commencement address at Stanford University in 2005
Yes, Steve Jobs was a man that did pretty spectacular things with his founding of APPLE. He has been credited with a number of motivational quotes like:
"There is no reason not to follow your heart. Stay hungry. Stay foolish." - Steve Jobs
He had a way to himself. When learning he had cancer and that it was began in his Liver, then presenting itself as a rare form of pancreatic cancer. He took his treatments. Those treatments allowed him them to run his life course and he gave it a valiant battle. Anyone with cancer can associate themselves with that part of his lifestyle and how it changed a little.
No, I am not saying I am anything near as accomplished as Mr. Jobs was; his achievements are legendary and what he did more important was to inspire people in his own field and industry to strive harder by presenting a better 'mouse trap'. .
I did that in the comics industry at a point in time where it was 'hungry' for innovation on a level that business and publishing couldn't grasp. Marvel Entertainment came the closest with FOOM (Friends of Old Marvel) and WHAMM, which I have to add is still plugging along (not as a comic book club driven by Stan Lee and Disney) , but with merchandising as the accompanying image suggests. But again, this isn't about me. Or ORCA, during its heyday; you'll be getting looks at that all here over my remaining time. This is about taking a moment to look at a man like Steve Jobs and know that Microsoft creatives were hard a work for a long time trying to better the APPLE "mousetrap" that Jobs built, and in some instances they did that ... but Jobs and his APPLE team strive even harder.

Oh man... Journalfen is awesome. How must Olnet now feel that at least 3 huge message boards are now mocking him?
This is really the end for him this time. He might serve some time for mail fraud and theft.
Seems that since I posted that blog entry of Rick's, he's gone and added to it. Here's the whole thing as it stands of this posting time.
**And I may add, it's now even funnier!!**
Again he states he has proof of everything. And again, we've heard that for over 10 years. C'mon Rick...come up with something new, instead of rehashing the same old lies and promises. Or are you going to tell us again how George Lucas named a Star Wars character after you, and you have the proof? Now would be as good a time as any to lay that chestnut to rest, especially since you're now having an actual discussion with LucasFilms. maybe you will start bragging of how CrossGen stole your "Comics In The Classrooms" idea? We've still never seen proof of that one either. Or maybe the ever-changing stories of ORCA and how many comics you gave away, or something from the many charities you've donated to? We've waited years for ANY kind of proof from you, and have yet to see one instance of where you actually showed anything, much less proof of it."Friday, October 07, 2011

But again, this isn't about me. Or ORCA, during its heyday; you'll be getting looks at that all here over my remaining time. I just failed in finding people with the same vision that I shared; people who were unafraid to lead a growing comic book group like Organized Readers of Comics Associated were simply not involved for the right reasons. Well, either that or they wanted to be like the Wonder Wizard of Oz. Several others attempted to 'farm ORCA for their own pockets. It is true that ORCA never itself had the ability to guarantee tax relief status to people, but WE DID work stringently through two local Lawyers from the start, and we still do, actually. He just is no longer on retainer. I can prove everything bit of information and news I have ever shared, alleged or put out via my blogs.
Believe me, I tried to find the right people at great expense to my core supportive group. It really was a wake-up call back in the late 1980s in finding the Internet and seeing how fans and fandom was so conflicted. Anyway, I'm not done yet. Me. I did what ORCA accomplished. All the smoke made by antagonists is simply a ploy to drive and people in another direction away from ORCA. Trolls are pretty easy to track and figure out once yo study them. 'Course also having a private investigator tag and bag them isn't a bad idea either, if you can afford it. Back in those early days, I spoke and exchanged emails with people like Mike Curtis, James Brennan, many individual freelance artists and a few writers, and even guys like Mark Evanier and Stan Lee. So shoot me! I failed. Heh, heh... don't take your example from me. Look to guys that were successful like Steve Jobs. But, hey! Don't stop watching me, because I just might surprise you the next 14 months or so.

Give it up Rick. The dream is dead. You will never have the scope or influence you think you have. You are a proven liar and thief, who owes thousands of dollars, and will never be trusted again. Everyone is on to you, and more importantly, there are many who will go out of their way to protect those who aren't. So just shut off the computer, and take a good long look in the mirror. The person staring back at you is the cause of all your troubles, and the only one that can help you salvage something of your miserable life. Start making ammends to those you've cheated, instead of threats of "I'll get you all!!!" Start blaming yourself for the mess you've created, instead of the "internet bullies" & "trolls." And finally, realise you will never be that big-wheel writer/publisher/promoter in the comics industry, and just be a reader or collector.
Or do as you've done your whole life, and continue blaming everyone else for your problems, and continue the cycle of being seen as a thief and shyster who may one day finally wind up in prison. I'm betting you'll see this way is the easiest for you, because at this stage in your life, if a lesson hasn't been learned yet, it never will.

Greetings all!
As a long time follower of this thread as well as the old thread on YABS, I will say this..
Many years ago, the company I worked for closed their offices here and I was laid off along with the rest of the staff. It was a few months before I was able to find a good paying job again and during that time things got very tough financially (I was getting unemployment benefits but that was barely enough to scrape by). A good friend of mine loaned me a sum of money to take care of some bills I wasn't able to pay before they became overdue. When I finally found a good job again and began getting my finances back in order, I found that I didn't yet have the money to pay my friend back on the agreed upon date. I felt terrible, but my friend was incredibly cool about it and worked out a payment schedule until I was able to pay him back completely, which I finally did.
My point to this story is that during that time I owed my friend money, I felt like the biggest heel in the world. It didn't matter that he was rather well-to-do and didn't NEED that money back immediately. It didn't matter that it wasn't a huge sum of money (less than $100). What mattered to me was that I was not able to fulfill my obligation to him. Guilt gnawed away at me on a daily basis despite his constant reassurances to me that he was cool with it. It was only after I paid him back in full that I was able to sleep at night with a clear conscience.
I can't even fathom what it must feel like to be a guy like Olney who can owe so much to so many and not lose a wink of sleep over it. It makes me sick to my stomach that there are people out there with zero conscience. I take some comfort in knowing that these people are more rare in our society, but still.
What a vile man this is.
Brandon
Cheers to you for making good on your debt!
I once owed a friend about $1300, when he helped me out in a rough patch.
I not only paid him back $1500, I also bought mulch for his yard and helped paint a house, among other things, as a form of "sweat equity".
Rick Olney is a liar, a thief, and a louse. I hope he goes to jail soon.

Every tax-paying citizen deserves the right to marry the person they love. Americans who vote to deny other Americans a right they themselves enjoy should have that right taken away from them.
