The Thing? He's been an Avengers for all of, what, one issue? (Since he never officially joined in WCA.)

Same with Iron Fist and Nova. Why not get some of the more marginalized classic Avengers some time? Black Knight, Simon, Wanda, Vision, Jan (guess those last two, and maybe three, would have to be a set-in-past story)...

Glad to see some love for Vance and Angel, though, and no mention of Luke Cage, Spider-Man or Wolverine (though the latter two are front and center on the cover).

He DID "officially" join the team in WCA--the team offered him membership, and he accepted. He never publically joined the team though, since he was forced to quit before the press conference where they planned to announce his membership.
You're right that he has only ever been a member of an active roster for about 1 issue...but he has been seen a few times as an inactive/reserve member called in for every-Avenger-ever situations, plus there was his stint with the WCA which led to his joining. Besides, not every Avenger has actually served a stint on the active roster: Mantis, Hellcat, Moondragon, Two-Gun Kid, Stingray, Sandman, Firebird, Silverclaw, Machine Man, D-Man, Mar-Vell, etc, are all considered Avengers but none of them have been active roster members.

Why not get some of the more marginalized classic Avengers some time?

I want to see that too.
