I don't know if Mister Andreyko checks in here but I challenge him to feature Extrano at the first appropriate juncture when he returns to writing for DC. I was just thinking earlier that Extrano was way too camp to be DC's only gay character but now that there are more, the camp thing actually is representative of a portion of the gay community at large...

I don't think so. I think the last NG appearance was from the blonde woman with the red helmet, and that was like 10 seconds before she got killed off.
The recent Global Guardians team included one New Guardian but not Extreno.
