Jonathon Hickman On FF SHIELD, SECRET WARRIORS & The midline titles of Marvel

"There are no midline titles at Marvel" says Hickman, and that means that many a great critical hit marvel comic still ends up getting cancelled.

From Nextwave & The Order, to SWORD, Doctor Voodoo, and many others we discuss. Listen to the interview, and tell me what you think of what Jonathon says.

That would suck something fierce if Fantastic Four got canceled. It's a Marvel trademark series.

Amazing discussion. I really enjoyed this one. Although, now I'm thinking of switching to HCs for Secret Warriors, knowing it has a definite end. That said, I'm definitely going to pick up SHIELD in singles in the hopes that Hickman will get to tell the story he needs to tell.

This is the first time I've ever really cared about the FF, even though I've jumped on and off the title for years. This is the first time I felt like I was really reading science fiction when reading the FF, instead of superheroes with sci-fi tropes thrown in. It's truly blowing me away.

What an amazing stable of writers Marvel has these days!

I don't think anybody is worried about Fantastic Four.

    correct.

Jon himself said if a new creator on one of the big titles fucks up, the TITLE will be fine. It's the creator who loses the gig.

MIDLINE titles mean the b and c level teams and charcters , like the examples in the 1st post above.

Ah, my mistake. Thanks for the correction

Great interview. I appreciate how candid he is with his comments. In a month where Siege is ending along with the entire Avengers line, and Marvel is rolling out all those one-shots in preparation for the begining of the Heroic Age, that is some serious confindence to boast that you have the best book coming out that month from Marvel. His opinions on Millar/Hitchs' run on FF were not off the mark, but surprising . Normally you don't hear other writers just come out and say it wasn't as good as their previous work. Really enjoyed the interview, very interesting stuff.

"Brian Bendis is one of the most profane and potty-mouthed people I know. The saltiness of the language that comes out of his brain makes Scarface blush. I mean, you can't imagine the stuff he says. Stuff like "#$%^knuckle" or "Monkey #($*%&^%!" Oh and then there's "Your Mother's @#$%^% cystic #$%^%!" I mean who thinks of these things?"-Joe Quesada

Another great episode. Mr Hickman was suprisingly candid, and I too appreciate it when creators are complimentary about their crosstown rivals. I know some think the rivalry is good sport and steeped in tradition, but so often it comes across as immature and I find it to be a turn off.

Looking forward to the upcoming Shield series which I wasn't prior to listening, and now I have another writer whose past work I need to track down and read.

SHIELD looks very interesting. I think I'll pre order the first issue.
