Unfortunately cuts to the space program rarely have negative political backlash. It's an easy target, many view it as non-essential (mostly because they don't understand it).

This is getting way off track, but a) I wouldn't call Malthus a eugenicist - it's a bit ahistorical, and b) I wouldn't say that he's been definitively proven wrong.

Not that space travel is a solution.


Anyway: No way could any President could sell a big NASA program with massive deficits and 10% unemployment. He'd be destroyed.
