Speaking for the ancient crowd, I think we're ahead in information technology, but way behind in almost every other category including transportation, medicine, and energy.
___________
Spoiler:
We're much father ahead than anyone thought we'd be, but it hasn't progressed the way we thought it would.
We're supposed to have rocket-packs and be traveling to other planets. But 50 years ago, nobody foresaw the microchip, internet, etc.
Depends on what kind of science and tech we're talking about.
Computer technology: I think we were lagging in the 70's and 80's, but we're at where we're supposed to be now.
Energy: We're decades behind where we should be. We've had the knowledge of solar, hydrogen, and wind technologies for decades, but only in recent years have we devoted any substantial money towards research and development.
If we hadn't gotten so hooked on fossil fuels, we could have had solar, and wind farms, and had hydrogen cars in the 60's! And just imagine how advanced and efficient they would be now!
Space Exploration: We're way, way behind. We have had sufficient understanding of space travel and sufficient technology to have built a permanent space station on the Moon by the 1970's. And we've could have astronauts to Mars and back long before now. We sadly seem to lack the will or interest to go forward.
Ocean Exploration: We still have only explored a small fraction of the world's oceans. Again, like Space Exploration, we don't fund it enough.
Medical Science: This is one area where I think we're slightly ahead. The Human Genome Project for example is actually ahead of schedule, and I think we will see a deeper understanding of our biology and will reap benefits from it sooner rather than later.
I think we're good, personally, but I think the 10s are going to have a lot of jumps. People are saying we'll have robots and stuff by 2015 and whatever so imagine how futuristic we're going to be by 2020.
I look forward to seeing what else we come up with.
Gemini Storm - My first published work. Free Issue #3 to anyone who gets their local store to stock the title.
Just Another Day - Bikini Girls and explosions.
Too bad we'll all be too medicated into a zombie-like state to enjoy any of it.
