All this talk about Avatar being "a great movie going experience"...

made me think about what movies I thought were "great movie-going experiences" from this year:

Here's what I most enjoyed seeing most in the theater this year:

    Inglorious Basterds
    UP
    The Invention of Lying
    Drag Me To Hell
    Ponyo
    Funny People

    there ya go.

    now let's see yours!

For me, great movie experiences are those films that entertain me to no end and stay with me long after I finished watching them; movies that as soon as I walk off the theatre, I want to see them again, and again and again:

    STAR WARS:A NEW HOPE
    CHICAGO
    KILL BILL
    AVATAR
    TITANIC
    BEACHES
    MAMMA MIA!
    SOUL FOOD
    THE GRIFTERS
    CASINO
    JULIE & JULIA
    X2
    SPIDER-MAN 2

Ponyo was definitely my best theater experience this year. It was also interesting being the only person in the theater when I saw Fantastic Mr. Fox (sort of a "be careful what you wish for" situation).

I actually had a pretty great time seeing District 9, but most of that had to do with the rants about how bad it was with my friends afterwards.

I kick myself for not getting around to Fantastic Mr. Fox. Hopefully it'll be playing at the cheap-o theaters during my week-and-a-half off work.

Geez Tom, just when I think I understand where your entertainment preferences are, I see The Grifters and Casino on there and I'm lost again.

    (500) Days of Summer - Left with a big ol' smile on my face
Star Trek - 4 Times in the theatre? Oh yeah...
G.I. Joe - Not for the quality of the film, but the quality of the riffs my friends and I were able to make during it

Seeing Bruno opening night in a packed house (much like Borat) was a lot of fun.

I'm more concerned with how he defines "this year."
