This zone is supposed to be where civilisation birthed (Mesopotamia and its surroundings) and it attracts lots of tourists each year.
With the stuff that we know now no one can claim they are guilty of anything. And they didn't deserved it because some think they where reckless.

"Some"? I don't know anyone I talked about this story with that didn't think they weren't reckless.

As the original story points out, they were repeatedly warned to stay away from that area, but chose to go there anyway.

Now we have to spend our diplomatic resources to get them out of a situation they willfully put themselves in.

I understand your point and I agree they were reckless.
Yet, until proven they were CIA or whatever, Iran is still holding them hostage and they should be treated as such (bad rapping,reckless, ridiculous goatee wearing morons or not).

How many times as a child were we warned of places we were not supposed to go and the consequences if we decided to disobey?

How many times did we listen and how many times did we break those rules?

What do we recall of the punishments for breaking those rules?

(Speaking for myself, there was a range from a spanking to a suspension and removal of privledges, after enough times, I didn't disobey again!)

Same principle applies here.

If they were warned, they disregarded it and now they have to deal with it.

Iran knows full well these people aren't spies. They're holding them for political capital.

Iran is a sovereign nation with no formal diplomatic treaty with the U.S. Which means they can hold the idiots there for any fucking reason they want.
