I've BEEN worried about China. I was doing "FEAR THE CHINESE" threads months ago, when they passed that Taiwan resolution.
China wants to buy an American oil company for about $18 billion.
This doesn't bother me so much. What bugs me is all the American companies, especially Wal-Mart, that out-source and use Chinese labor to the point of costing American jobs and a massively huge trade defeset (spelling?) projected at $163 billion dollars if I remember correctly. Use to be America could out manufacture anybody. Not any more.
It's not going to be long before China is more powerful than the US.

yes
unless it's PF Chang which I find is pretty good
For a minute I got scared there would be no more Chinese food.![]()
But no, I'm not worried about the possible purchase of an oil company.
BTW - CNN just said the $18 billion bid is in cash!
Ugh!

The outsourcing of our jobs scares and concerns me a great deal.
But I'm not scared of China, it's been obvious that they would replace us as the leading World power for a long time now. It will be interesting.

I'm not so much bothered by the bid as I am by it being held by essentially a government. If the US Govt came in and bid on Unocal (and don't think for a second that they couldn't pull up 18B in cash if need be), it would be shot down almost immediately.
I don't object to Chinese businesses purchasing US companies (anymore than I was with Japanese companies doing it in the 80s); I have a problem when governments get involved though.
I'm more worried about the U.S. government than China.
I'm more worried about the Chinese military if they ever decided to play hardball than I am about an oil company sale.
That doesn't mean I'm 100% okay with a foreign government buying a US company, though.
